Oggi Paolo Balistreri ci parla di una interessante costruzione biologica marina chiamata trottoir a vermeti. Scopriamola insieme.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-22590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ocean4future.org\/savetheocean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Piattaforma-trottoir-a-vermeti.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1111\" height=\"833\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ocean4future.org\/savetheocean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Piattaforma-trottoir-a-vermeti.jpg 4320w, https:\/\/www.ocean4future.org\/savetheocean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Piattaforma-trottoir-a-vermeti-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ocean4future.org\/savetheocean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Piattaforma-trottoir-a-vermeti-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.ocean4future.org\/savetheocean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Piattaforma-trottoir-a-vermeti-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1111px) 100vw, 1111px\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Trottoir a vermeti dell\u2019Isola di Favignana &#8211; foto Paolo Balistreri<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Il <strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">trottoir a vermeti\u00a0<\/span><\/strong> \u00e8 una <strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">biocostruzione marina<\/span><\/strong> che si eleva dal fondo verso la superficie del mare, modificando progressivamente l\u2019ambiente locale, sia fisicamente che ecologicamente (Fagerstrom, 1987; Bianchi &amp; Morri, 1996).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Il <strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">trottoir<\/span><\/strong> \u00e8 edificato dal mollusco gasteropode vermetide <strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Dendropoma (Novastoa) petraeum<\/span><\/strong> (Monterosato, 1892), considerato il principale biocostruttore del trottoir a vermeti (Chemello et al., 2000), in associazione con alcune alghe rosse incrostanti, come <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Neogoniolithon brassica<\/strong> <strong>\u2013 florida<\/strong><\/span> (Harvey) Setchell &amp; Mason (Fig.2), una componente importante dei trottoir a vermeti.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Quest\u2019ultima alga \u00e8 comune in \u201c<strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">cuvettes<\/span><\/strong>\u201d e pozze di marea, e non si trova mai su altre alghe. Alla piattaforma si associa spesso il <strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Vermetus triquetrus<\/span><\/strong> (Bivona Ant., 1832) (Fig.2) che, sia in forma solitaria che gregaria, occupa le porzioni perennemente immerse della struttura poich\u00e9, differentemente dal Dendropoma petraeum, presenta un opercolo vestigiale poco adatto per resistere ai periodi di secca.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-22591 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.ocean4future.org\/savetheocean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/1560766_10202207265282170_236180133_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1111\" height=\"438\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ocean4future.org\/savetheocean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/1560766_10202207265282170_236180133_n.jpg 951w, https:\/\/www.ocean4future.org\/savetheocean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/1560766_10202207265282170_236180133_n-300x118.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ocean4future.org\/savetheocean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/1560766_10202207265282170_236180133_n-768x303.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1111px) 100vw, 1111px\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Neogoniolithon brassica\u2013florida (a sx, foto di Mirella Coppola) e Vermetus triquetrus (a dx, da www.xenophora.org )<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Dendropoma petraeum <\/span><\/em><\/strong>pu\u00f2 essere considerato una specie \u201cstrutturale\u201d. Si tratta di un mollusco gasteropode sessile endemico del Mar Mediterraneo che ha una robusta conchiglia di forma tubulare a crescita irregolare.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-22592 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.ocean4future.org\/savetheocean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/69549_10202207270282295_299860416_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1226\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ocean4future.org\/savetheocean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/69549_10202207270282295_299860416_n.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.ocean4future.org\/savetheocean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/69549_10202207270282295_299860416_n-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ocean4future.org\/savetheocean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/69549_10202207270282295_299860416_n-768x401.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1226px) 100vw, 1226px\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Dendropoma petraeum (sx, foto di WORMS)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">E\u2019 una specie gregaria e coloniale adattatasi a vivere nella fascia inter-mareale grazie alla presenza di uno spesso opercolo corneo che chiude l\u2019apertura della conchiglia nei periodi di emersione cui l\u2019animale \u00e8 sottoposto durante l\u2019alternanza dei cicli di marea. La specie si nutre esclusivamente attraverso filtrazione per mezzo di <strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">ciglia<\/span><\/strong> che, con l\u2019ausilio di sostanze mucillaginose, intrappolano piccoli organismi contenuti nell&#8217;acqua (Calvo et al., 1998).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Come premesso il D. petraeum pu\u00f2 essere quindi considerato la principale specie biocostruttrice (30%) del reef a vermeti (Chemello et al., 2000). Dendropoma petraeum presenta le gonadi di entrambi i sessi. Le uova presentano uno sviluppo diretto (Calvo et al., 1998) e sono incubate all&#8217;interno della cavit\u00e0 del mantello in una capsula ovigera. La schiusa delle uova \u00e8 diretta, ed i giovanili sono in grado di insediarsi sul substrato subito all&#8217;esterno della conchiglia materna. In uno studio comparativo tra coste con trottoir a vermeti e coste nelle quali queste strutture sono assenti, \u00e8 stato evidenziato come questa formazione contribuisce all&#8217;aumento della diversit\u00e0. La componente malacologica \u00e8 costituita da circa 46 taxa, tra questi ad esempio Mytilaster minimum (Poli, 1795), Cardia caliculata (Linnaeus, 1758), Pisinna glabrata (Von M\u00fchlfeldt, 1824) (Fig.4).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Per quanto riguarda i crostacei associati al trottoir a vermeti, possiamo menzionare Pachygrapsus marmoratus (Fabricius, 1787), Eriphia verrucosa (Forsk\u00e5l, 1775), Maya squinado (Herbst, 1788) e Chthamalus stellatus (Poli, 1791).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-22594\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ocean4future.org\/savetheocean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/1554583_10202207287322721_1685762783_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1108\" height=\"404\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ocean4future.org\/savetheocean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/1554583_10202207287322721_1685762783_n.jpg 526w, https:\/\/www.ocean4future.org\/savetheocean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/1554583_10202207287322721_1685762783_n-300x110.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1108px) 100vw, 1108px\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Pachygrapsus marmoratus ed Eriphia verrucosa<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Per quanto riguarda la componente algale, sono stati identificati 129 taxa. I trottoir a vermeti sono distribuiti in tutto il Mediterraneo, anche se le strutture pi\u00f9 imponenti sono descritte per il settore orientale, in particolare lungo le coste di Israele (Safriel, 1975) e del Libano (Dalongeville, 1977). Nella Sicilia nord-occidentale la distribuzione delle biocostruzioni a vermeti coincide con le formazioni carbonatiche costiere a prevalente esposizione ad Ovest\/Nord-Ovest (Dieli et al., 2001).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I siti sono: Cefal\u00f9, Capo Zafferano, Capo Gallo, Punta Barcarello, Isola delle Femmine, Punta Raisi, Tonnara del Cofano e Isole Egadi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Schema morfologico<\/span><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nDall\u2019osservazione dei trottoir siciliani \u00e8 possibile definire uno schema morfologico generale in cui, secondo un transetto costa-largo, distinguiamo le seguenti componenti:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Cintura infralitorale a Cystoseira amentacea var. stricta<\/strong>:<\/span>\u00a0posta inferiormente al bordo esterno della piattaforma.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Bordo esterno:<\/span><\/strong> costituito da una spessa incrostazione di Dendropoma, a volte superiore ai 40 cm, molto articolata e fessurata, che rappresenta la vera porzione attiva del trottoir, in espansione verso il largo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Cuvettes:<\/span><\/strong> una o pi\u00f9 depressioni dal diametro variabile da qualche decimetro ad oltre un metro ed una profondit\u00e0 generalmente inferiore ai 50 cm. Le cuvettes di dimensioni maggiori possono essere paragonate a piccole lagune retrorecifali.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Cornice prossimale:<\/span><\/strong> di pochi centimetri di spessore, formata dalle incrostazioni di due rodoficee, Neogoniolithon brassica-florida (sin. Spongites notarisii) e Lithophyllum byssoides (sin. L. tortuosum), quest\u2019ultima considerata un marcatore del trottoir.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Incrostazione di Dendropoma petraeum:<\/span> <\/strong>indicata come \u201cbordo interno\u201d, spessa alcuni centimetri.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-22595 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ocean4future.org\/savetheocean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/struttura-trottoir.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"595\" height=\"332\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ocean4future.org\/savetheocean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/struttura-trottoir.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.ocean4future.org\/savetheocean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/struttura-trottoir-300x167.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 595px) 100vw, 595px\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Tipico trottoir siciliano (Tratto da R. Chemello, 2009)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nella Convenzione di Berna del 1979 sulla \u201cConservazione della vita selvatica e dell\u2019ambiente naturale in Europa\u201d, ratificata dall\u2019Italia nel 1981 (L. 503 del 5\/08\/1981) e recepita con i suoi allegati soltanto dopo il 1996, viene elencato tra i molluschi il Dendropoma petraeum (Monterosato, 1884), principale costruttore di piattaforme a vermeti. Da sottolineare che la protezione delle specie elencate negli allegati I e II della Convenzione impone la protezione dell\u2019habitat in cui queste si trovano. Tuttavia, questa Convenzione non ha lo stesso potere della Direttiva Habitat (Cinelli et al., 2009). La Convenzione di Barcellona del 16 febbraio 1976, modificata nel 1995, e i protocolli elaborati nell&#8217;ambito di tale Convenzione mirano a proteggere l\u2019ambiente marino e costiero del Mediterraneo, incoraggiando la progettazione di piani regionali e nazionali che contribuiscono allo sviluppo sostenibile.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008000; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Il protocollo SPA\/BIOL\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong>Nel protocollo <strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">SPA\/BIO (Convenzione di Barcellona)<\/span><\/strong> troviamo una serie di criteri finalizzati ad individuare le aree di particolare interesse per la conservazione della biodiversit\u00e0 mediterranea, <strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">ASPIM (Aree Specialmente Protette di Importanza Mediterranea)<\/span><\/strong>.
